“Can I do it?”; “Should I do it?”; “How do I do it?” These are some of the questions that often stall a person long enough in one position and he ceases to progress. He is unable to tread forward as he is too busy calculating only the risks. No one has ever achieved success without striving for it and to attain that greatness one needs the much-needed MOTIVATION and SELF-DISCIPLINE.

This piece of writing is bifurcated, expounding upon the role of motivation in the first half and of self-discipline in the second half.

Humans are unique and they owe this uniqueness to their personal growth, enhanced well-being and sense of purpose in life. Motivation is that path that determines the quality of these aspects and enables a person to change the way he feels, thinks and consequently behaves.

However, it must be kept in mind that motivation is not a built-in element. Besides, there is a bucket list of individuals who often complain that they lack motivation despitetrying. It is because, more often, they tend to leave their tasks for another day or simply quit because they believe that timing is not right. Such fragmented efforts are a result of lack of motivation that is responsible for maintaining a reasonable distance between a person and what he wishes to achieve: success. Thus, motivation becomes a necessary force that keeps reminding one why he started and compels him not to quit.

No amount of emphasis is enough to underscore the importance of motivation in a person’s life. It is a vital life skill. Humans beings are not lost wanderers. They have a purpose in life which is unique and different from others. In order to steward that purpose in a decent manner and for transforming their dreams into reality, motivation plays a very promising role. Humans require a direction which acts as a guiding light and ensures that they do not deviate from the track to be followed. Motivation is that light tower that is responsible for turning a simple idea or a thought into action without wasting any time.

We live in a world where had it not been motivation to unravel true human’s potential, the world would have been very different. All the progress, advancement and immense development that humans have made in every walk of life, owes it to motivation that did not allow mankind to leave or simply quit. Motivation instills confidence in a person and that is reflected in all the relationships as well as in the community that one lives in.

Motivation is responsible for igniting that desire in a person to change his life for better. That flame of desire enables one to picture his goals clearly. It is important because without a clear direction, even tireless efforts would not cast much of an impact. Therefore, motivation provides one with the needed vividness so one gets a pitch perfect picture about what he is doing, and what does he need to do.

Equally important is to priorities one’s tasks so that no amount of time is wasted. Before taking on any tasks, it is extremely important to set an order or a sequence in which each prerequisite of the task is tackled. Motivation is that pressing force that assists one in assessing the importance and urgency of tasks and prioritizes them based on the set parameters. It does not allow one to lose focus and attention, keeping one engaged in a beneficial manner.

Last but not the least; it is motivation that provides one with enough strength and courage to never back down. No matter how many times one falls, the will to stand back – even stronger – is credited to motivation. Setbacks are a part of life and no one can deny their existence. These setbacks exist to make prominent the power of motivation. Such individuals, who do not give in to the harsh realities of life, are the ones whose success knows no bounds.

We often hear the term “self-discipline” in a piece of advice, especially, from a counselor or a life-coach.What is self-discipline?

It is control over one’s weaknesses and use of strength to harnesses his potential. It is the determination to make one a better person with every passing day. It is a tool that equips people with the art of dominating negative emotions.

Now let’s decode the importance of self-discipline in one’s life to achieve success. It is often said that self-discipline is the key to success and most successful people will always emphasize on self-discipline stronger than anything else. But the question that remains is “why self-discipline is so important to achieve success in one’s life?”

Self-discipline teaches one to become a force to be reckoned with and achieve what one never thought he could possibly achieve. It cultivates discipline in one’s life and makes it easier for one to develop habits that are pre-requisites for success. Habits are of utmost importance as they are set of those life patterns that can make one or break one. Therefore, successful people follow their habits religiously by exercising self-discipline. He becomes self-made, does not depend on others and knows how to get things done.

Lastly, success is not bought, it is earned. It comes to those only who deserve it and to deserve it one needs to keep improving every single day. It is pertinent that one becomes the best version of themselves in order to become successful and that is where self-discipline jumps in. It assists one in improving their life regularly and significantly. It changes the personality and attitude of a person to such an extent that it is success now that runs behind him, not the other way around.

To sum it up, Motivation and Self-discipline are two extremely significant aspects that play a pivotal role in order to ensure success. Each of them is as important as the other and cannot be compromised. Rather, both of these qualities augment each other. Success is not static; its definition keeps on changing and is different for everyone. However, no matter how one defines it, it cannot be achieved without motivation and self-discipline. Therefore, in this competitive era where every person is in a continuous race against himself, it becomes absolutely vital that one continuously repeats the habits that one develops via motivation and self-discipline as Will Durant said, “We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act but a habit.”
